Yoshimori Sumimura and Tokine Yukimura are the next generation of Kekkaishi who have been protecting the land of Karasumori from demons for generations. Although they are neighbors and friends, their families are at odds with each other, each claiming to be the rightful Kekkaishi successor. A school complex sits on the Karasumori land itself. So during the day, Yoshimori and Tokine attend school, while at night, they hunt demons.
Their method of exterminating demons is also quite unique: creating kekkai (cube-shaped demon traps). Once the demon is trapped, the Kekkaishi decide whether to release or destroy it. The combination of Yoshimori's recklessness and Tokine's calculating nature make them a unique Kekkaishi duo. However, over time, the demons' power only grows.
